Gene EcR

D. melanogaster gene Ecdysone receptor , abbreviated as EcR , is reported here . It encodes a product with the function ecdysteroid hormone receptor involved in carbohydrate metabolism which is localised to the nucleus; it is expressed in the prepupa and pupa (Malpighian tubule , dorsal metathoracic disc , embryonic/larval fat body , embryonic/larval midgut and 14 other listed tissues). It has a known homologue in Lucilia cuprina . It has been sequenced and its amino acid sequence contains a nuclear hormones receptors DNA-binding region signature . It has been mapped cytologically to 42A6--9 . It interacts genetically with Dfd , Pc and Sin3A . There are 48 recorded mutant alleles , of which at least 7 are available from the public stock centers. Loss-of-function mutations have been isolated which affect the germ-line clone egg chamber , the oocyte stage S14 and the follicle cell and are embryonic recessive lethal and recessive conditional ts female sterile. EcR is discussed in 168 published references , dated between 1988 and 1999. These include at least 23 studies of mutant phenotypes , 2 studies of wild-type function and 2 molecular studies . Among findings on EcR mutants, mutations in EcR reveal functional differences among the receptor isoforms encoded by the EcR gene. Among findings on EcR function, EcR function is required maternally for normal oogenesis.
